The problem with the world today is not any one thing. It's not that we are in all these wars, or that we have elected the wrong people, or what we are doing to the planet.
The problem is how we were raised. We were all raised by people who were raised, by people who were raised, by people who were raised..... to live up to the standards of their parents. We are taught, from birth, that the world expects things from us. That reward comes from jumping through all the whoops and fulfilling others' expectations. Those who don't, find they have no place in society; they can either become criminals, or homeless people. Man kind has evolved for hundreds of years to function cohesively by doing what others require of him (or her).
This culture teaches us that there are consequences if we don't do what we are told. So we learn to avoid pain, embarrassment, and isolation by orienting our lives around what other people want. We turn off the voice inside in exchange for being loved and accepted by our environment.
Why do I say this is the reason for all our problems?
The result is, you have a bunch of people disassociated from who they truly are and what is important to them. Money=Security. So we run around trying to make money, thinking that if we could just make enough, we would feel safe. But security is just a feeling. In fact, one could argue that the more money you have, the more you are a target for danger. Fame=Love. So we run around trying to get people's attention, make them happy, join a community in which we can be known for doing great things. Get everyone to love us, feel of value. But, let me tell you, everyone has their own perspective, to put oneself out there, one is more likely to receive criticism, or simply become a magnet for fixing others' endless problems and disappointing people when you don't. Well, we can take a short cut and feel loved. Take a short cut and feel secure.
So, what if we weren't raised like this? What if each of us were allowed to explore the world without being told "you need to do this" "you need to act this way" "this is wrong, this is right". What if there was no external pressure placed upon us and no standards to live up to. How much of our problems today are caused by disconnecting from the true self and living from the outside in.
The world is the way it is because people have lost touch with themselves.
What if we were allowed to listen to ourselves and see the wonders of the world through our own eyes. What if we resonated with the authentic, creative, individual we truly are. Why would a person who was raised from birth in such an environment get a job they hate? Why would they want to do something they know is destructive to the planet or to other people? If we followed our passion, our interests, how could we not reach our fullest potential?
People always look up at the night sky and wonder about Outer Space.
The world is indeed a big and wonderous place. Science tells us that it would take hundreds of light years, thousands, just to get to those other solar systems. However, quantum physics may soon realize there are other ways to travel.

Well, maybe it's not really so much "out there" as much as it is "in here" - inside of each of us, in the space between the atoms. We are our link to everything else. If we would but listen. Listen. Listen to our guts and our intuition, close our eye-lids and open our inner eyes, listen with our inner ears. Have the courage to feel our way.
